The Story Behind the Innovation
How the Idea Started
Over the last five years, something unexpected started happening.
As BeHeard shared more stories online, people from all over the country began reaching out. Today, our social media community has grown to nearly 200,000 people across platforms.
We hear things like:
- "I wish I lived in Oklahoma so I could volunteer."
- "How can I help from where I am?"
- "I want to serve with you."
Some people have even flown across the country just to volunteer for a single day.
But most people who want to help simply don't live close enough.
At the same time, we were seeing another gap.
Most services for people experiencing homelessness close around 5 PM.
But homelessness doesn't stop when the workday ends.
People still need help late at night, early in the morning, and in moments when traditional services are closed.
So we started asking a question:
What if volunteers could serve from anywhere in the world…
and neighbors could access help anytime they needed it?
That question led to something new.
